Netscape Messenger

Please follow these instructions to create a new profile in Netscape Messenger. Before you start, ask your system administrator if you are allowed to connect to an external POP3 server.

  1. Fire up your User Profile Manager from the Utilities folder.
    1. Windows users: Click on Start > Programs > Netscape Communicator > Utilities.
    2. MacOS users: The User Profile Manager is located in your Netscape Communicator folder.
  2. Click on the New... button.

  3. Read through the introductory message, then click on Next.

  4. Type the name you wish to use in the Full Name: box.

  5. Type your new email address in the Email Address (if available): box. Click on Next when done.

  6. Name your profile in the Profile Name box. This should be an easy to remember name, descriptive of the new email account, for example: Sales, Personal Box, or Work Email.

  7. Keep the Default Directory unless you have good reason to change it. Click on Next when done.

  8. Type smtp.primus.ca in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: box. Click on Next when done.

  9. Type your new email address in the Mail server user name box.

    Note: This may not work with older versions of Netscape, if you can’t retrieve your mail, replace the email address with your control code (The numeric part of your activation code).

  10. Type pop.primus.ca in the Incoming Mail Server: box.

  11. Make sure that POP3 is selected. Click on Next when done.

  12. Type news.primus.ca in the News(NNTP) server: box. Click on Finish when done.

  13. Close down communicator. You will now be prompted for a profile when you start Communicator.
